Nancy Coggeshall
Biographer, Journalist, Speechwriter

Nancy Coggeshall currently hangs her hat in Reserve in New Mexico's southwest quadrant. She is working on a memoir of Quentin Hulse, a man of the land and master-storyteller raised in New Mexico's Gila Wilderness and National Forest.

Raised on the East Coast, Nancy discovered the power and fancy of language through letter-writing and pen-palling. As an undergraduate at the University of Rhode Island, where she earned her B.A. in English in 1963, she contributed an article to The Rhode Islander. Upon graduation, Nancy taught English for three years in Toronto. She began freelance writing in rural Quebec in the mid-seventies, publishing significant profile pieces and articles about country life, which in turn led to a contributing writer position with Harrowsmith, Canada's third largest magazine at the time.

Returning for a spell to her native Rhode Island, Nancy worked at Johnston & Wales University, holding a variety of communications positions over six years. She wrote manuals and brochures and press releases, as well as feature articles about Olympic riders, world-class long distance runners and prestigious international chefs. Her writing appeared in Equus Magazine, Yankee Horse Trader, and Horseman's Yankee Pedlar.

Since moving to New Mexico, Nancy has worked at the University of New Mexico Press and continued her freelance writing. Her writing has been featured in numerous publications, including The Bloomsbury Review, New Mexico Historical Review, Desert Exposure, The Townships Sun, The Albuquerque Journal, The Santa Fe New Mexican, The Endsheet, and New Mexico Woman.

Nancy is a member of the New Mexico Book Association, the Western Historical Society and the New Mexico Historical Society.
