Alfred van Cleef is a freelance journalist. He made his literary debut in 1994 with the nonfiction book The Lost World of the Berberoviae Family, in which he traces the history of a Bosnian Muslim family, which was split up by the war in Bosnia-Heregovina. The Lost Island is about his passion for the most inaccessible island on Earth. It is located at 37° 50’ south latitude in the Indian Ocean and bears the name Amsterdam.
